SAFEGUARDING POLICY

PROMOTING A SAFER CHURCH

 

The following policy has been adopted by the Secretariat of Peterborough Anglican Cursillo and will be reviewed annually and accepted at the Annual General Meeting of Peterborough Anglican Cursillo.

 

In accordance with the Church of England’s House of Bishops guidance and policy,

Peterborough Anglican Cursillo is committed to:

  • Promoting a safer environment and culture.

  • Safely recruiting and supporting all those with any responsibility related to young people and vulnerable adults within the Cursillo movement.

  • Responding promptly to every safeguarding concern or allegation.

  • Caring pastorally for victims/survivors of abuse and other affected persons.

  • Caring pastorally for those who are the subject of concerns or allegations of abuse and other affected persons.

  • Responding to those that may pose a present risk to others.

Peterborough Anglican Cursillo will:

  • Provide a safe and caring place for all meetings and weekends.

  • Have a named Cursillo Safeguarding Officer (CSO) to attend team training days and lead awareness sessions regarding policy and procedures.

  • Safely recruit, train and support all those, serving on team with any responsibility for young people and adults participating on a weekend and to have the confidence and skills to recognise and respond to abuse.

  • Display on the participants Notice Board for the weekend and on the Peterborough Anglican Cursillo website the details of who to contact if there are safeguarding concerns or support needs.

  • Listen to and take seriously all those who disclose abuse.

  • Take steps to protect young people and adults when a safeguarding concern of any kind arises, following House of Bishops guidance, including notifying the Diocesan Safeguarding Adviser (DSA) and statutory agencies immediately.

  • Offer support to victims/survivors of abuse regardless of the type of abuse, when or where it occurred.

  • Care for and monitor any member of the Cursillo community who may pose a risk to adults whilst maintaining appropriate confidentiality and the safety of all parties.

  • Ensure that health and safety policy, procedures and risk assessments are in place and that these are reviewed annually.

  • Review the implementation of the Safeguarding Policy, Procedures and Practices at least annually.

Each person who serves on team within this Cursillo community will agree to abide by this policy and the guidelines established by the Church of England.

 

Peterborough Anglican Cursillo appoints Jessica Cotton as the Cursillo Safeguarding Officer. Any concerns that occur on a weekend should be reported directly to the Lay Rector or a designated safeguarding officer for the weekend and then forwarded immediately to Jessica Cotton, CSO for Peterborough Anglican Cursillo, (Tel: 07799 441181), who will then consult and seek advice from the Diocesan Safeguarding Adviser (Tel: 01733 887040).

APPENDIX 1:

 

The following procedure is to be followed if an allegation is made.

  • The person being complained about is withdrawn from all activities.

  • The Cursillo Safeguarding Officer is made aware immediately.

  • The complainant is given time to record their complaint and is supported through the process.

  • The accused is also supported throughout.

  • The CSO liaises in a timely manner with the Diocesan Safeguarding Officer, working jointly where required.

  • An investigation is undertaken to ascertain the facts of the allegation.

  • All involved parties are made aware of the outcome of the investigation (including the Bishop and the British Anglican Cursillo Council (BACC) President)

A copy of this document is to be put on the Homepage of the Peterborough Anglican Cursillo Website and in the files for the Lay Rector, the Observing Lay Rector and the Spiritual Advisors on a weekend.
